New Britain Public Library Hosting New Haven Chinese Cultural Cooperative Music Program

The New Britain Public Library is hosting a music program by the New Haven Chinese Cultural Cooperative.

The event is Saturday, November 14th from 2:00 – 3:00 in the Periodicals Room

The Library says that,

The New Haven Chinese Cultural Cooperative (NHCCC) is a community-based traditional Chinese music ensemble established in 2023. Since their debut, NHCCC has performed and hosted workshops at various Connecticut schools, libraries, and major events, including Artwalk, the International Festival of Arts and Ideas, and Lunarfest. While the members come from diverse cultural and musical backgrounds, they have found a common language in music, aiming to foster cultural awareness throughout Connecticut.

This fall, NHCCC is bringing its whole ensemble to the New Britain Library. In addition to the favorites from their Fall Harvest program, the ensemble is showcasing some new songs the group is adding to its repertoire: The Red Moon (plucked strings), Axi Celebration (Sheng feature), and Antongge Goes Shopping (dizi duet). Guided by a narrator, the audience will also meet Chinese traditional instruments such as the erhu (Chinese fiddle), guzheng (ancient zither), sheng (mouth organ), and so many more. Attendees are invited to stay after the performance for questions and a closer look at the instruments.

Space is limited for this event, please register online at nbpl.info!

This program is sponsored by donations from NHCCC’s annual fundraiser – The Great Give
