Black Business Resolution inspires a Remarkable Black Business Expo

The City of New Britain’s third-year anniversary of the Black Business Resolution inspired a Remarkable Black Business Expo this year at the New Britain Art Museum. The first year that I submitted the resolution it was simply read. The second year we had a small event. This year was blessed with a beautiful Black Business Expo at the New Britain Museum of American Art. I am positive that every year we will continue to grow together!

I want to give a special thanks to the vendors, the museum, our Secretary of State Stephanie Thomas, Mayor Bobby Sanchez, and the community who came, making this event another joyful day of Access for All Day at the Museum. I partnered with the Museum in hosting the New Britain Black Business Expo. We came together to connect local business owners, build support, and promote cooperative economics.

The day featured a drum circle facilitated by the Nomadic Drummer’s, and curated sound by Wide Awake. We also featured a variety of local businesses: Ct Lead, Aspen’s Library, Sasha Whole Earth, In Ascentsbyre, Pretty Afrika Designs, Kaydrawsy Brofthoughts, Southern Belle Soul Food, 2 gurl LLC, Insight of New England Counseling, LLC, Gorgy by Candy, and the SURE Program!

We are so grateful for community, culture, and collaboration. As a business owner, I know first-hand that it is extremely important to support small businesses and particularly black businesses because we face unique challenges. As Bill Clinton once said, “It’s the economy, stupid.” This is how people put food on the table and keep funds circulating in our community. Every major business started as a small one.

So, let’s make some millionaires while supporting our local entrepreneurs.
