DeFronzo Touts Council Record in Race for State Representative

Former City Council member Dave DeFronzo says that his experience on the Council, working on emergency response, park protection, neighborhood concerns and opposition to corporate tax breaks as makes him well suited to succeed current State Rep. Peter Tercyak (D-26) in the legislature.

Rep. Tercyak, who recently announced his retirement, after serving the district for 21 years, has endorsed DeFronzo, saying that,

Dave’s unwavering commitment to our community, his proven track record on the City Council, and his deep understanding of the issues that matter most to our residents make him the ideal candidate for the 26th District. I am proud to endorse Dave DeFronzo for State Representative. He embodies a new generation of Democratic leadership that is sorely needed in our state legislature.

A New Britain High School graduate who went on to teach for 18 years at Jefferson School, “worked tirelessly with community members and elected officials to protect AW Stanley Park and has been a vocal supporter of addressing neighborhood concerns, such as snow removal, infrastructure improvements, road paving, and park revitalization,” his campaign said.

“His dedication to fairness and community well-being is further evidenced by his opposition to large tax breaks for corporations and out-of-town developers,” DeFronzo’s campaign said, “championing instead the interests of local residents and small businesses.”

Democrat DeFronzo, announced his candidacy for the seat last week and another Democrat, former Ald. Aram Ayalon (D-3) has also announced that he is seeking the Democratic nomination for the seat. If both candidates qualify for a primary, Democratic-registered voters will decide the Democratic nomination for the seat in an August 13th primary election. No Republican has filed a candidacy with the state yet.

“Our community deserves leadership that understands our challenges, values our strengths, and is fully committed to fostering an environment of growth, inclusivity, and prosperity for every resident,” DeFronzo says. Saying this intends to serve as a, “new generation of leadership,” DeFronzo added that, “I look forward to following in Rep. Tercyak’s footsteps, as your State Representative, and I promise to be the leader our community needs.”
