Democratic Legislators Back Sanchez for Mayor

The entire Democratic state legislative delegation and the Democratic Council leader announced that they are backing Rep. Bobby Sanchez (D-25) for Mayor of New Britain.

Senator Rick Lopes (D-6), Rep. Peter Tercyak (D-26), Rep. Manny Sanchez (D-24) and the Democratic City Council leader, Ald. Francisco Santiago (D-5), have all announced they they are backing the Twenty-Fifth District State Representative to be elected as Mayor in the 2021 elections this year.

“Bobby Sanchez embodies everything that is special about the city of New Britain,” said Sen. Lopes, “and his passion, hard work, and thoughtfulness would make him a terrific mayor.”

Rep. Tercyak said that, “During my time serving with Bobby he has always shown an unrivaled commitment to improving New Britain schools and to creating new opportunities for our young people.”

“Before he became a state representative or served on the board of education,” said Rep. Manny Sanchez. “Bobby served this community at the Human Resource Agency (HRA) as a teacher and director of a parenting program for fathers.”

“I am endorsing Bobby because I’ve seen him in action and know that if given the opportunity, he will work tirelessly for every resident, regardless of neighborhood,”  said Ald. Santiago, the City Council Minority Leader. “Inclusivity and equity are at the top of his agenda and he will be ready to get to work on day one.”

Rep. Bobby Sanchez is currently Chair of the powerful legislative Education Committee, his second term in that important position. Advocates for Sanchez frequently laud his work in supporting funding for New Britain schools, early childhood education and public education, in general. He has been named as a “Children’s Champion” by the Connecticut Early Childhood Alliance.

Sen. Lopes said that Rep. Bobby Sanchez’, “experience fighting for the people of this city has given him insight into how we can put our city on a better path forward and I am confident that if elected, he will help New Britain reach its highest potential.”

Rep. Bobby Sanchez’ official biography says that he, “is a longtime leader in the New Britain community. Before joining the state legislature, he served on the New Britain Board of Education, where he was a strong voice for quality education and efficient administration.”

Rep. Manny Sanchez commented that Bobby Sanchez’, “His commitment and love for this city is deep and I think he has the vision and experience to put us on a better trajectory going forward.”

Rep. Bobby Sanchez’ biography says that he has served on local boards including Citizens for Action in New Britain, the Federal Housing Residents Council, the New Britain Democratic Town Committee, the New Britain Human Rights Commission and the City’s Housing Coalition Board.

Rep. Tercyak said, of Bobby Sanchez, that, “As mayor, I know he would continue to build on this work and make our city a better place to grow up for everyone.”
