Racial Justice Coalition Seeks Volunteers for Breakfast Program

The New Britain Racial Justice Coalition is seeking volunteers for free community breakfasts it plans to hold in different neighborhoods in the city.

New Britain Racial Justice Coalition protest against Columbus statute, July 9, 2020.

The group had been planning on a community breakfast earlier, but that was postponed due to weather.

“We have decided to show up in different neighborhoods every few weeks and set up a free breakfast to connect with the community and determine their needs,” the Coalition says. “We want to create a friendly and caring environment.”

The first community breakfast event that the group is planning is for Saturday, September 12, 2020, at 10:00am. “A free meal for everyone in the community,” the group says. “Join us!”

The group is seeking volunteers to help with the effort from 7:00am to 12:20pm that day.

“We will start cooking early,” the Coalition says, “then pack into cars and drive out into the community. And set up the breakfast there any help will be welcomed.”

The organization has an online form for volunteers to sign up. “An email will be sent out when the community for the week is decided.”

The New Britain Racial Justice Coalition says that it is,

a multi-racial, multi-generational grass roots movement seeking to eradicate racism and create equality in the City of New Britain and in its surrounding towns. We do political education and community organizing. We welcome anyone regardless of race, gender, sexuality or socio economic backgroud. We want to fight for you and with you to create a better New Britain, and hopefully a better Connecticut and further.
