Lacourciere is running in the August 11, 2020 primary against the endorsed Democratic candidate city Ald. Manny Sanchez (D-AL).

The New Britain Racial Justice Coalition emerged from the protests and activism against systemic racism in the wake of the killing of George Floyd by police in Minneapolis.

Saying that Lacourciere, “has supported us since the creation of the coalition,” the organization says that,

He has been to every event and always checks up if we need help of any kind. He shows up and fights for what he truly believes in. Along with showing up for the cause, the ideals he supports will help the CT working class tremendously. We like that Richard supports a wealth tax, increasing the minimum wage/paid sick leave, healthcare for all, pushing legislation to combat climate change, and police accountability/defunding.

Lacourciere said that,

I’m proud to accept the endorsement of the New Britain Racial Justice coalition. But I’m even prouder of having stood by them as they have led rallys and protests to fight for not only a more equitable New Britain but a more just Connecticut as well. And I intend to continue to do that going forward. Our campaigns GOTV kickoff will have several of its members in attendence and I’m hoping they’ll speak some words of encouragement there as well.

The group says that Lacourciere,

understands that basic needs are not being met at all in CT, especially during these times in a pandemic. He understands the inequalities and racism that still plague our state. We believe that with Richard’s character and ideals, it will be a better fit for working people, not just for the district, but for the whole state as well. He is the progressive candidate.

The 24th Assembly District represents the West End, Willow Brook and southern East Side neighborhoods of New Britain and the south west corner of Newington in the state House of Representatives.
