CT Peace Fest Holding Protest in Tribute to Dowdell

A peaceful protest has been announced by the group, CT Peace Fest, in tribute to musical artist Zoe “Gangstalicious” Dowdell.

The event is planned for Sunday, July 5, 2020 from 12:00pm to 3:00pm at Walnut Hill Park.

The event is to have live music, event organizers say, with, “@DJMeechie, @weeloveeDanni, @SteveyNewnez.”

Event organizers also say that the event is to include voter registration, special guests, art, speakers, non-profit organizations and activities for kids.

Dowdell was killed on December 14, 2017 when five police officers, according to the State’s Attorney report on the incident, fired a total of twenty-eight shots at the car Dowdell was allegedly driving. Fifteen year old Caleb Tisdol was also reportedly injured. Dowdell was twenty.

The incident was the subject of protests in New Britain in 2018 and 2019 against the long withholding of police dash cam videos and against the Fairfield State’s Attorney’s decision to clear five police officers in the incident.

Organizers of the July 5th tribute to Dowdell say that the event is to include, “words to be shared by his family.”

Organizers list participating in the event as including the Ally Collective, 93.7, the NBRJC, WhyIMatterCT and BLM 860.
