Sanchez, Tercyak & Pawlak Endorsed for Re-Election

The Democratic Party has officially endorsed the re-election of State Rep. Bobby Sanchez (D-25) and Rep. Peter Tercyak (D-26), along with Registrar of Voters Lucian Pawlak (D).

The endorsements were at an teleconference meeting held on May 21, 2020.

“I’m honored and humbled by the support of so many,” Sanchez said, “and always ready to pull my sleeves up and advocate for the people of this State and my hometown New Britain!”

Sanchez, who was endorsed for re-election in the 25th Assembly District added, “Thank you former DTC chair John McNamara, former councilwoman Shirley Black and the rest of the delegates for your support!”

Sanchez is running for his sixth term as the State Representative for the 25th Assembly District. He serves as Chair of the state legislature’s important Education Committee.

Sanchez’ official biography says that he, “is a longtime leader in the New Britain community. Before joining the state legislature, he served on the New Britain Board of Education, where he was a strong voice for quality education and efficient administration.”

Terycyak was endorsed the Democrats for re-election to represent the 26th Assembly District. Tercyak is the dean of the New Britain state legislative delegation, having been first elected to the post in 2003, succeeding his father Rep. Anthony Tercyak.

“I’m honored to be endorsed by the New Britain Democratic Town Committee,” Tercyak said. “I’m proud of my good, liberal record. A schedule to reach $15 an hour. Paid family and medical leave, like every one of our allies that we compete with economically.”

“But,” Tercyak said,

our next challenge is coming. Paying for the increased costs of fighting Covid-19. And coping with the decreased revenues it will cause. Already you can hear the call to cut services, to limit eligibility for benefits, and to break our promises. I believe, instead, that we must finally have the wealthiest among us pay what should have long been their fair share. That we should look at percentage of income paid for all taxes, not just who’s pile of dollars paid is the highest.

Tercyak’s official biography says that, “Raised with a strong belief in the importance of activism and community service, Peter has worked on campaigns to reform managed care, provide job security and crack down on the rising cost of prescription drugs.”

The 25th District and the 26th District are both entirely within New Britain. Each party’s town committee directly endorses candidates for those seats.

Democrats also endorsed former Mayor Lucian Pawlak (D) for another term as the city’s Registrar of Voters.

There are two Registrars of Voters, one for each major party. The two are city’s top election officials.

Republican Peter Gostin is the Republican Registrar of Voters.

Pawlak was endorsed to serve a four year term as Registrar.
