Thanking Reps Hayes, Larson and DeLauro for Co-Sponsoring Legislation to Prevent Nuclear War

We need to thank Representatives Hayes, Larson and DeLauro for their decision to cosponsor H. Res. 317. This resolution is designed to bring us back from the brink of nuclear war. President Trump’s threats to annihilate Iran, the discussion of the use of tactical nuclear weapons, the termination of all nuclear weapons control treaties with Russia and the integration of AI into nuclear weapon systems, all increase the risk that nuclear weapons could be used . The co sponsorship of H. Res 317 by these three US House Representatives, is an important step forward in raising awareness of the danger the world faces.

President Trump has declared “A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again.” He then posted an AI generated image of himself pushing a red button with nuclear explosions appearing . He has told a reporter, “My question is, if and when do I blow the entire nation up?” Speaking at the UN on September 23, he asked, “Do I annihilate the Islamic Republic, and do it quickly?”

It is time for congress to assert its authority and confront the President on these reckless threats. The possible use of nuclear weapons against Iran and elsewhere , makes the need to work toward the elimination of nuclear weapons , all the more urgent. Call to thank our congress persons who cosponsored H. Res 317 and ask them to assert congressional authority, in the face of Trump’s nuclear threats.
