Lamont and Shea Win Their Primaries, Including in New Britain

Incumbent Gov Ned Lamont (D) appears to have been chosen by Democratic voters to run for a third term as Connecticut’s Governor, as unofficial results of the Democratic primary show him defeating State Rep Josh Elliott (D) by a more than two-to-one margin.

In New Britain, unofficial results show Lamont winning by 1,557 votes to 725.

As of the publication of this article 165 of 169 towns have reported results, according to data from the Secretary of the State, but all 17 of New Britain’s polling places were reported.

In the Republican 5th Congressional District primary appear to show Chris Shea defeating Jonathan De Barros, with nearly 80% of the votes of Republican voters. In unofficial results, Shea appear to have won among New Britain’s Republicans by 246 to 72.

Gov Lamont will be the Democratic Party candidate in the November 3rd general election, when elections will be also by held for US Representatives, State Senators, State Representatives and other statewide offices. State Senator Ryan Fazio (R), who did not have a primary, is the Republican nominee for governor.

Incumbent 5th District Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (D) also did not have a primary this year. She is the Democratic Party nominee, running for a fifth two-year term. Shea will be her opponent in the November 3rd election.
