Mayor Sanchez Announces Small Business Microgrant Program

Mayor Bobby Sanchez (D), together with the City Department of Planning and Development have announced the City’s 2026 New Britain Microgrant Program.

“Small businesses are the backbone of New Britain’s economy,” Mayor Sanchez said. “They create jobs, activate our commercial corridors, and help define the character of our neighborhoods.”

City Director of Operations and Communications, Alisha Rayner, says the New Britain Microgrant Program is, “designed to provide financial support to local small businesses,” adding, “Recognizing that small businesses are the heartbeat of New Britain’s community, this program will offer one-time grants of up to $7,500 to help five (5) businesses cover essential costs including equipment, security systems, or signage. In order to be considered eligible for the grant, businesses must have been in operation for at least 2 years, and create or retain at least one low/moderate income job.”

“Through this microgrant program,” said Mayor Sanchez, “we are making targeted investments that strengthen local entrepreneurs and support long-term economic growth right here in our city.”

“Funding is offered in the form of a forgivable loan and the selected businesses must submit proof of location annually for a period of 5 years until the loans are forgiven,” said Rayner. The deadline to submit an application is Friday, March 27, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply early.”
