Reader: Doomsday is Not Inevitable – We Can Change Course

By Joseph Wasserman

On January 27th the doomsday clock was set to 85 second before midnight. As we see confrontations between nuclear armed nations escalate, we can act by calling on our Senators, Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal, to cosponsor S Res 323. S Res 323 calls for putting a halt and reversing the nuclear arms race, something that can be done if we speak out.

We do not have to have a situation where Russia and the US have nuclear weapons, on hair trigger alert, pointed at each others cities. Nuclear winter and the end of civilization is not inevitable. We do not need to have a situation where money we need for housing, education, health care and green infrastructure is being diverted to develop weapons of mass annihilation

You can be part of the solution by calling our two senators and asking them to cosponsor S Res 323- the resolution to halt and reverse the nuclear arms race. Ask them to follow the example of Representatives Larson, Delauro and Hayes who cosponsored the companion House resolution – H Res 317. You can help change course by going to the website of Back from the Brink at http://www.preventnuclearwar.org and getting engaged.
