City Council to Consider Allocations of Federal HUD Grants
The City Council is set to consider a resolution allocating funds provided to the city by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
The funding, the resolution says is to support, “the HUD goals of developing viable communities, providing decent housing and suitable living environments, and to expand economic opportunities principally for low-and moderate-income persons and with an Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing.”
Funding is allocated each year to the city by HUD and is allocated by the Council, under its required five-year HUD funds action plan.
Consideration of HUD funds allocation recipients and amounts originated from the city’s Commission on Community and Neighborhood Development. While the resolution on the Council agenda includes a list of programs and allocations, the Council has historically made changes to the allocations before final approval.
The allocations would include $1,593,937 in federal Community Development Block Grant funding, $561,434 under the federal HOME Program and other $111,000 under the federal HOME-ARP Program.
The resolution says that, “during Fiscal Year 2025 the City anticipates receiving Program Income from CDBG activities in the amount of $284,185, and from HOME activities in the amount of $124,048, which will be used to support new projects.”
The proposed allocations list $318,787 in, “CDGB Administration,” and $56,143 in, “HOME Administration.”
The largest CDGB allocation in the proposal would be $150,000 for the city Department of Public Works for, “Infrastructure Improvements.” The largest proposed HOME allocation would be $200,000 for Neighborhood Housing Services of Greater New Britain for “Tool Works.”

The Council meeting is Wednesday, May 14th at 7:00pm in City Hall.
