Mayor Bobby Sanchez and the City Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities are holding a Black History Month Exhibition and Reception, “honoring and celebrating prominent Black residents whose leadership and service have made a lasting impact on our community.”

“Black History Month is a time not only to reflect on history, but to recognize the leaders in our own community who continue to shape our city for the better,” said Mayor Sanchez. “We are proud to celebrate residents whose dedication, resilience, and service embody the very best of New Britain.”

The event is to be on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm on the 2nd Floor of City Hall.

“This special evening will recognize individuals who have made lasting contributions across civic leadership, education, business, advocacy, arts, and community service, ” says City Director of Operations and Communications Alisha Rayner. “The exhibition will highlight their impact and provide residents an opportunity to reflect on the rich history and continued influence of Black leaders in New Britain.

“An exhibition and reception will follow the ceremony,” event organizers say.

“The exhibition and reception will offer an opportunity for residents, community partners, and local leaders to gather in recognition and celebration,” Rayner adds. “Light refreshments will be served.”

“This event is open to all,” event organizers add.
