City Tax Collector Cheryl S Blogoslawski Placed on Administrative Leave

The City of New Britain has announced that its Tax Collector, “has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation into years of alleged financial malfeasance within City Hall.”

The Tax Collector, according to the city’s website, is Cheryl S Blogoslawski. Blogoslawski became Tax Collector as a Republican when the position was an elected position, before the controversial decision to convert it into an unelected city position.

City Director of Operations and Communications Alisha Rayner said that,

Upon learning of the allegations, Mayor Sanchez immediately directed that an independent investigation be conducted to ensure a thorough and impartial review of the facts. That investigation is currently active and ongoing.

“The City is committed to transparency, accountability, and protecting the integrity of municipal operations,” Rayner added. “Additional information will be shared as it becomes appropriate to do so.”

The City website says that the, “The overall responsibility of the Tax Collector’s Office is the management of an effective and efficient tax collection process for the City ~ in accordance with local City ordinances and all related State of CT Revenue Collection Statutes. This involves everything from billing (taxes), informing (the public) and advising (taxpayers) on all matters relevant to municipal property taxes.”
