Gov Lamont Orders Special Election for New Britain House of Representatives District
Gov Ned Lamont has ordered a special election to be held to fill the vacancy in the 25th Assembly District. Mayor Bobby Sanchez (D) represented the district in the State House of Representatives until he took office as Mayor of the city.
“Under state law,” Gov Lamont said, “the governor is required to issue a writ of special election within ten days of a seat in the General Assembly becoming vacant, and a special election must be held 46 days after the writ is issued.”
The special election is to be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
The 25th Assembly District represents the city’s downtown area, North-Oak neighborhood and parts of the Broad Street, East Side and Belvedere neighborhoods.
