Expanding access to Fair Rent Commission Announcement

Aldermen Neil Connors (D) and Jerrel Hargreaves (R) announced they have developed new policies to expand access to the Fair Rent Commission. In a July 28 Facebook announcement Alderman Connors issued a statement:
“I’m proud to share that Ald. Jerrell Hargraves and I worked together—across the aisle—to expand access to the Fair Rent Commission (FRC) process for tenants in our city.”

✅ Before: If you were facing *any* kind of eviction—even for something minor like a lease technicality—you couldn’t challenge an excessive rent increase.

✅ Now: As long as you’re current on rent, you *can* bring your case to the FRC—even if your landlord has started a no-fault eviction.

This means more tenants can fight unfair rent hikes **without giving up their rights** just because of a parking issue or lease clause dispute.

This bipartisan fix keeps things fair for renters while respecting landlords’ rights—and helps ensure no one gets priced out of New Britain unfairly.”
