Connors Qualifies for Primary in 4th Ward
Incumbent Ald Neil Connors (D-4), has qualified for a primary for the Democratic nomination City Council in Ward 4, challenging the endorsed Democrats, Ald John McNamara (D-4), the City Council’s Majority Leader, and former Ald Luz Ortiz-Luna, for one of the two Democratic nominations for Council in the Ward.
The city’s fifteen Council members are elected from five districts, commonly called, “wards.” Each party can nominate two candidates in each ward, and the top three candidates in the general election represent the ward.
Connors was elected to the Council in 2023, but Ortiz-Luna was endorsed instead this year by the Democratic Party’s Town Committee. Ortiz-Luna previously served on the Council as a Republican, a fact Connors has been talking about as a case for his re-nomination. But, when she was a Council member, Ortiz-Luna had impressed many Democrats by breaking with the administration of Mayor Erin Stewart (R) on some issues and for proposing a $4 million allocation toward the Allen Street infrastructure project.
The primary will be held on September 9, 2025, with early voting voting available September 2nd to 7th. The two candidates in the primary with the most votes would be the Democratic Party candidates in the November general election.
