Coach Shaw commented that,
Thank you Heavenly Father for the Blessings. I was recently asked to name some of the top Osgood ballers that went on to play in the NBA. Here is my list. Day 1, I would like to feature Marcus Camby, 6′ 11″, 240 pounds. After leading Hartford Public High School (Hartford, CT) to a perfect 27-0 record and the Class “LL “ Chip, he played in the 2nd Annual Osgood Park Shootout, held outside at a jammed packed Osgood Park. He is not the best baller to come out of Hartford, because he only played one seasonat the Pub. However, I think he accomplished more than any player moving on to the next level, and yes l know that Rick Mahorn won the chip with the Detroit Pistons. Marcus would go on to play at UMass, where he was named the Atlantic 10 Freshman of the year in 1994. In 1996 he was the most dominant college player in the country and was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, First Team All-American and the National College Player of The Year. After that season, Marcus was the #2 overall pick in the 1996 NBA Draft by the Toronto Raptors. Marcus also played for the Denver Nuggets, Portland Trailblazers, New York Knicks, LA Clippers and Houston Rockets. After the 2006-2007 season he was named “Defensive Player of the Year”, and led the league in blocked shots. Marcus was also named to the NBA All-Defensive Team 4 times. He was blessed to play in the league for 17 years. Brother Marcus, thanks for your time at the Oz. (Cambyland 2004 Open Division Champions.
Coach Shaw added,
God is great. Here is another Osgood baller that went on to play in the NBA. Day 2, I would like to feature Jonathan Kuminga, 6′ 7, 225 pounds. JK, as he is known by in the NBA, played in the Oz after completing is freshman year in high school. He was ranked the #2 player in the country as a small forward in the class of 2021. His squad, “The Hearts” out of Waterbury, CT. won the High School Division and JK was named the MVP. By the time he was a Junior he was ranked the #1 player in the country by many publications. He graduated after his junior year and reclassified to the 2020 class and announced that he would bypass college basketball to join the NBA G League Ignite. After a year in the G League, he entered the NBA. He was selected by the Golden State Warriors with the 7th pick in the 1st round of the2021 NBA Draft. In 2022, he was a member of the World Champion Warriors, and was in the rotation. He still currently plays for the Warriors. JK, thanks for your time at the Oz. Photo credit, Manny Lugo. God is Love
“If you haven’t filled out your summer schedule,” said Coach Shaw, “please add the Oz to your calendar.”
