Alderwoman Sanchez Is Panelist at UCONN’s Latina Campaign School Saturday, April 26

Common Council Assistant Majority Leader Iris Sanchez (D-3) will participate in a panel discussion at the “Together United” conference sponsored by the University of Connecticut School of Social Work’s Puerto Rican/Latino Studies Project on Saturday, April 26th.

The conference will be held at the Legislative Office Building, 300 Capitol Avenue in Hartford from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Organizers say the conference is an opportunity to “learn why Latina/ne representation matters, how local government works, determine who holds power in your community, and gain strategies to build political confidence,”

“This event is very important for me and the Latino/Hispanic community of Connecticut, says Alderwoman Sanchez. “Our community needs more diversity in local, state and federal representation. In this way we can work and fight together for a safe environment for all and access to housing, education and above all to health.” Alderwoman Sanchez is currently the longest serving Democrat on New Britain’s Council and represents Ward 3 in neighborhoods in the center of the city. ln addition to her leadership position she is liaison to the Commission on Community and Neighborhood Development (CCND}, EMS, the Fire Commission, New Britain Housing Authority, North Oak NRZ, Parks and Recreation, Public Safety and the Veterans Commission.
