Democrat Rebecca Martinez Annouces Win for State Representative in 22nd District
Democrat Rebecca Martinez has announced that she has won the 22nd State Assembly District over incumbent Republican Rep Francis Cooley (R-22).
“We did it!!!” Martinez announced to supporters online today. “Thank you Plainville, Southington and Farmington for putting your trust in me. I cannot wait to get to work representing our communities in Hartford!”
The district, which represents Plainville and neighborhoods in Farmington and Southington, formerly included the north west corner of New Britain until the 2022 redistricting.
The year’s election was a rematch after Cooley narrowly won re-election against Martinez 5,046 to 4,993 in 2022.
Martinez has been Vice-Chair of the Plainville Board of Education. The website of New Britain’s Queen Ann Nzinga’s Center says that Martinez is a nurse and has been a member of the State Board of Nursing, adding that she,
is known for her determination and ability to get things done. She is passionate about advocacy and the importance of community service. Her community service has included Plainville Early Learning Center Board, Plainville Family Fest Committee, Wheeler PTO Treasurer, Plainville Rotary Club, and medical for Plainville Colts Football.
The election was apparently close, since the website of the Secretary of the State, as of the publication of this article, showed Cooley ahead of Martinez by 43 votes. Similarly, CT Mirror, publishing AP data, as of the publication of this article showed Cooley as the winner of the race.
