Row B Wins Democratic Town Committee Primary Election in New Britain
The Row B slates for Democratic Town Committee in Ward 1 and Ward 3 both won in Tuesday’s primary election for the Democratic Party’s Town Committee.
The election had pitted two slates in two of the city’s five wards in what was, at times, a heated contest. The candidates on Row B campaigned on experience and including leadership that had successfully brought funding to support local services in the city. The candidates on Row C, meanwhile, said that their team prioritized expanding the organizing and activists in the Democratic Party.
“New Britain Democrats have spoken and have made their voice heard,” said Rep. Manny Sanchez (D-24). “I am proud of the organizing effort that our team delivered on and that the community responded to with a 17-0 victory.”
Rep. Sanchez added, “The newly elected Democrats will use their new role on the DTC to continue to support the core values that define us as a party – including making New Britain more affordable, safer, and protecting a woman’s right to choose.”
Before the election Ald. Iris Sanchez (D-3), had said she was running for Democratic Town Committee in Ward 3 because, “We need more diversity and equality within the DTC to better represent our community.”
Democratic Town Chair Chris Anderson said that, “Tonight’s victory, led by Senator Rick Lopes, State Rep Manny Sanchez, and State Rep Bobby Sanchez is unprecedented.”
“Winning 17 out of 17 seats across our city leaves zero doubt that our values are New Britain’s values,” Anderson added.
