Osgood Shootout Announces Scholarship Recipients

Osgood Shootout Tournament Director Darwin Shaw has announced the 2023 recipients of the scholarships the benefit Tournament supports.

The 2023 Osgood Tournament, known as New England biggest summer men’s basketball tournament, will be held that the August 12th to 13th. The Tournament will be held, once again, at New Britain High School.

Receiving the Dana L. Vieira Scholarship include,

Kiatyanna Denmark

Kiatyanna has been awarded the Dana L. Vieira Scholarship. She is the daughter of Arlyce Berrouet. Kiatyanna is a graduate of New Britain High School, class of 2023. Before attending New Britain High School, she attended SMSA during her fresh-man and sophomore years. Throughout high school, she was a member of the Volleyball and Basketball teams at both schools. She has also been an honor student and plans to begin her studies at Western New England University in Springfield, Massachusetts in the fall of 2023, where she plans on majoring in Criminal Justice

Davin Siharath

Davin has been awarded the Dana L. Vieira Scholarship. He is the son of David and Alba Siharath. Davin is a graduate of New Britain High School, class of 2023. Throughout his high school years, he was a member of the New Britain High School Golden Hurricanes Marching Band for four years, and was a member of the Soccer team for three years. Davin was also a two-time All-State Volleyball player. He will begin his studies at Rivier University in Nashua, New Hampshire and will play Volleyball in the fall of 2023, where he plans on majoring in Cyber Security.

Jasmine Rose

Jasmine has been awarded the Dana L. Vieira Scholarship. She is the daughter of Cheliene Rose. Jasmine is a graduate of New Britain High School, class of 2023. ‘Throughout her high school years, she partici-pated and completed the Culinary Academy. She fre-quently volunteered to prepare and distribute meals to NBHS staff and students. Jasmine also participated with Unified Sports. She will begin her studies at Manchester Community College, in Manchester, Connecticut in the fall of 2023, where she plans on being a part of the Culinary Arts Program. Afterwards, she plans on transfering to Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island to complete the Culinary Arts Program.

Jayda Williams

Jayda has been awarded the Albert A. Vieira Scholarship. She is the daughter of Amy and Chris Williams. Jayda is a graduate of New Britain High School, class of 2023. Throughout her high school years, Jayda was a member of the New Britain High School Golden Hurricanes Marching Band and was named section leader for Flutes and Bells during her senior year. She was an honor roll student and was a part of Tri-M ( Music Honors Society). Jayda also received the Culinary Arts Scholarship and the Dave M. Kayser Music Scholarship. She will begin her studies at Southem Connecticut State University in New Haven, Connecticut in the fall of 2023, where she plans on majoring in Music Therapy.

Zulexia Hernandez

Zulexia has been awarded the Albert A. Vieira Scholarship. She is the daughter of Zuleimy Gonzalez and Alexis Hernandez. Zulexia is a graduate of New Britain High School, class of 2023. Throughout her high school years, Zulexia was an active cheerleader and a mem-ber of HOSA ( Halth Occupations Students in America ). She was also a member of the Girls Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field teams during her junior and senior years. She will begin her studies at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, Connecticut in the fall of 2023, where she plans on majoring in Exercise Science and become an Athletic Trainer.

Jeremiah Hines

Jeremiah has been awarded the Albert A. Vieira Scholarship. He is the son of Tiffany Harrison and Gerard Hines. Jeremiah is a graduate of New Britain High School, class of 2023. Throughout his high school years, he was a member of the Cross Country, Boys Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field P teams during his junior and senior years. Jeremiah was also a member of the Football team during his senior year. He will begin his studies at Timis Community College in Farmington, Connecticut in the fall of 2023, where he plans on majoring in Engineering Science.

Receiving the Trejion Stewart scholarship will be,

Taniyah Hoskie

Taniyah has been awarded the Trejion Stewart scholarship. She is the daughter of Simmi Wallace and Anthony Hoskie and the great granddaughter of the late Claudette Wallace, a long-time educator of the New Britain School District. Taniyah is a graduate of New Britain High School, class of 2023. Throughout her high school years, she was a member of the New Britain High School Golden Hurricanes Marching Band and was appointed Drum Major during the 2022-2023 season. Taniyah was a high honor roll student and a steadfast member of the Madrigals, Interact Club, Tri-M Honor Society, Math National Honor Society, and National Honor Society. She will begin her studies at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, Connecticut in the fall of 2023, where she plans on majoring in Psychology Premed.

Receiving the Chuck Roby, Jr. Scholarship is to be,

Tyler Turner

Tyler has been awarded the Chuck Roby, Jr. Scholarship. He is the son of Sarah and Jay Turner. Tyler is a graduate of St. Paul Catholic High School, class of 2023. Throughout his high school career, Tyler was a member of the Boy’s Track & Field team. He was the Class “S” State Champion in the Long Jump in the 2023. He was also named All Naugatuck Valley League five times, and All New England in Indoor Track in the Long Jump in 2022. Tyler earned honor roll distinction for 12 consecutive academic quarters. He was a member of the Blue Key Club, CIAC Student Advisory Board, Class Act Committee and the Men of Color Leadership Committee. He will begin his studies at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina in the fall of 2023. where he plans to major in Health Science and Human Performance.

The Tournament will also feature will also feature performance by Ace Livingston and Friends. The concert is to be between 4:00pm and 7:00pm on Saturday, August 12th. Shaw says,

God’s love is everlasting and I will always praise him. I am proud to announce that the Oz will have some live entertainment at this year’s tournament. If you want to hear some good R&B and Jazz music, please come out and show some love to New Britain’s own, Ace Livingston. He and his friends are guaranteed to put on a great show.
