Lawmakers Will Discuss Legislative Issues, Priorities For 2023 Session

NB League of Women Voters Hosts Public Forum at Library January 21

NEW BRITAIN – The New Britain area League of Women Voters (NB-LWV) invite the public to ask questions and hear from local lawmakers at “2023 Legislative Conversations” on Saturday, January 21st, at 10 a.m.

The forum will be held at the New Britain Public Library’s Community Room, 20 High Street. Scheduled to participate are State Senator Rick Lopes (D-6), 24th District State Rep. Manny Sanchez and 26th State Rep. Peter Tercyak.

The Connecticut General Assembly opened its 2023 session on January 4th and will close on June 7th in a long session that is expected to deal with how to manage a $3 billion state surplus, tax cuts and reform, housing and election law including ranked-choice voting and implementation of early voting in the state after passage of a constitutional amendment last November.

State Senator Lopes, a deputy majority leader in the 36-member senate, represents Berlin, New Britain and a portion of Farmington. He is the Co-Chair of the Environment Committee and Vice Chair of the Transportation Committee. State Rep. Manny Sanchez serves on the Appropriations and Education Committees. State Rep. Tercyak, the longest serving member of the New Britain delegation, is a member of the Appropriations, Energy and Technology and Public Health committees.

The New Britain legislative delegation also includes Deputy Speaker Bobby Sanchez (D-25) and State Rep. Gary Turco (D-27) of Newington who represents Newington and the Roosevelt School voting district in New Britain.
