Farmington Results: Representative Demicco, Democratic Candidates Prevail in Farmington

FARMINGTON – State Rep. Mike Demicco (D-21) held off Republican challenger Joe Capodiferro in the Farmington-Unionville state assembly district as Democrats prevailed across the town’s ballot. Demicco received 5,486 (54.86%) to Capodiferro’s 4,919 (45.04%).
Demicco will begin his sixth term in January. He was first elected to the legislature in 2012, after serving four terms on the Farmington Town Council. He is currently a Deputy Majority Leader in the House of Representatives, and serves on the Environment, Public Health, and Energy & Technology Committees.
Governor Ned Lamont and Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz defeated Republicans Bob Stefanowski and Laura Devlin, gaining more than 56% of the vote at the top of the ticket. U.S. Senator Dick Blumenthal (D-CT) and Democratic candidates for the state’s constitutional offices also won by double digit margins. By contrast, in 2018, Lamont narrowly lost to Stefanowski for Governor for the open seat to succeed Dannell Malloy in Farmington.
2022 Campaign
In the 22nd Assembly District that includes a portion of Farmington and Plainville, Francis Cooley, the Republican, edged Plainville Board of Education member Rebecca Martinez. Martinez, who is also Democratic Town Chair in Plainville, edged Cooley 543 to 530 in Farmington but lost in the multi-town assembly district 5,046 to 4,993 in a close election to succeed Republican, Dr. William Petit, who did not seek re-election. State Senators Derek Slap (D-5) and Rick Lopes (D-6) representing Farmington were also re-elected.
U.S. Rep. Jahana Hayes (D-5), the narrow victor in the hotly contested 5th Congressional district, defeated Republican George Logan 54.24% to 45.76% (6,469 to 5,457)
