State Auditor Geragosian Of New Britain To Lead National Association

State Auditor John Geragosian, a former New Britain state representative from the 25th Assembly District, is the incoming President of the National State Auditors Association (NSAA), an affiliate of the National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers (NASACT). Geragosian, currently serving on the group’s executive committee, will be elected to the post in June.

NSAA is dedicated to “improving state government by providing opportunities for the free exchange of information and ideas and promoting accountability, transparency and the observance of professional audit standards.”

The Speaker of the House and Senate President appointed Geragosian to become State Auditor of Public Accounts in 2011 following Geragosian’s 2010 election to a new term in the state House. Connecticut selects its auditors along party lines, one Democrat and one Republican, who lead a fiscal watchdog agency that monitors all state agencies and institutions and issues findings and recommendations for corrective action.

Geragosian served in the Connecticut House of Representatives for 16 years where he rose to Co-Chair of the Appropriations Committee. Prior to serving in the legislature, Geragosian served in local government. He was an Alderman in the City of New Britain from 1989 to 1993 during the administration of former Mayor Donald DeFronzo. He is a graduate of the University of Connecticut with a B.A. in Political Science.

Geragosian, the son of Realtor Harriet Geragosian and Attorney Harold Geragosian, is a lifelong resident of New Britain, where he lives with his wife, Audrey and daughter Molly.

(Update: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated Geragosian was President-Elect of NASACT instead of NSAA).
