Jr Canes Holding Online Football Specific Workouts

New Britain Hurricanes Youth Football & Cheerleading held the first of first its planned online “Football Specific Workouts” yesterday.

As people adjust to a reality of social distancing to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, there have been many efforts to maintain community online. The Jr Canes now add online workouts as part of its youth athletics program to those creative efforts.

Coach Trevor Hairston of the Jr Canes used a Facebook video yesterday, April 22, 2020, to lead exercises, encouraging young people to be a part of a common exercise routine, while maintaining social distancing.

The workout was the first of a series. The Jr Canes say that the workouts are to occur on Wednesdays at 4:00pm and Sundays at 12:30pm.

The workout sessions are to be on the organization’s Facebook page at facebook.com/nbjrcanes or fb.com/nbjrcanes.

The organization says that suggested equipment for the workouts include, “Set 3 Mini Bands, 1 Agility Ladder, 4 Cones, 1 Football, and 2 Tennis Balls,” but add that, “Workouts can be done without equipment.”

New Britain Youth Football & Cheer, Inc. is the official name of the Jr Canes organization. The group says that it,

is a not for profit organization formed to provide children living in the community the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of sports. The primary goal is to develop young men and women; who through participation in the program; will progress into New Britain High School football and cheerleading program creating a feeder system that will focus on the student-athlete as a whole and produce successful community contributors as well as fundamentally sound athletes.
