Hoops for Homeless Cancels 2020 Downtown Event

The annual Hoops for Homeless benefit 3 vs. 3 basketball tournament, planned for April 25, 2020, has been cancelled, event organizers say.

“Hoops for Homeless 3 vs 3 Event has been cancelled until next year —APRIL 24, 2021,” event organizers announced on the organization’s Facebook page.

The 2020 event was to be the eighth annual time that the the charitable organization held its popular tournament. The event animates downtown New Britain with lively basketball competition, while raising funds to help homeless children and families.

On its website, the organization says that it, ” is a volunteer organization aimed to raise awareness for homeless youth and families in New Britain.”

The organization says that, “Hoops for the Homeless is a three-on-three basketball tournament that started in New Britain in 2013 to benefit homeless youth.”

The group says that it has given, “nearly $46,000 to partnering organizations,” and ,”has given $11,500 in scholarships to college-bound New Britain High School graduate students, who were homeless during their teenage years.”

The organization’s website, which is on the CCSU website, includes a “How to Get Involved” page, with a link to “Sponsor or Donate.”
