Jr. Canes Season Underway

The Jr. Canes’s season is underway, with its youth competition programs in full swing and New Britain players already meeting with successes.

The New Britain Hurricanes Youth Football & Cheerleading, the nonprofit organization that runs the Jr. Hurricanes football, cheer, dance and other programs, announced the game scheduled for the upcoming weekend.

The organization says that the game schedule for the weekend of Saturday, October 12, 2019 and Sunday, October 13th start on Saturday with flag football games and 8:00am and 9:00am. The 8U team then plays at 1:00pm and the 10U team plays at 3:00pm.

On Sunday, the 11U team plays at 10:00am, the 12U team plays at 12:00pm and the 13U team takes the field at 2:00pm.

“All games home at Chesley Field,” the Jr. Canes say in their newsletter, “NB Jr. Canes vs. Bridgeport, Waterbury and East Hartford.

The Jr. Canes play their home games at Chesley Park on Wildwood Street.

As reported on the website of the Connecticut Youth Football and Cheer Conference, as of October 9th, New Britain’s 8U and 11U both had 5-0 records and the 10U team had a 3-1 record.

The organization is also holding a food drive to fight hunger on the weekends of October 12th to 13th and October 19th to 20th, and is encouraging its participants to, “wear pink and show your support,” of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

New Britain Youth Football & Cheer, Inc., the official name of the Jr. Canes organization, has said that it is,

a not for profit organization formed to provide children living in the community the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of sports. The primary goal is to develop young men and women; who through participation in the program; will progress into New Britain High School football and cheerleading program creating a feeder system that will focus on the student-athlete as a whole and produce successful community contributors as well as fundamentally sound athletes.

The New Britain Jr. Canes is a part of the Connecticut Youth Football & Cheer League and American Youth Football.
