Michael Foran Appointed Assistant Superintendent

Longtime New Britain educator Michael Foran has been named as Assistant Superintendent. Foran was appointed by the Board of Education at a special meeting on July 31st.

Superintendent Nancy Sarra had recommended that the Board approve Foran’s appointment to the position. Sarra said that Foran, “is a true instructional leader. He has a calming presence and is well-known in the community.”

“I am looking forward to working with Superintendent Sarra,” said Foran, “building administrators, and staff to lead positive change that I believe will significantly benefit our students.”

School Board President Nicole Rodriguez, lauded Foran, saying, “Throughout his career in CSDNB, Mr. Foran has demonstrated the ability to lead, collaborate and help students succeed. He will be a great addition to Central Office and the Superintendent’s Cabinet.”

Foran began his thirty-two year career as an educator in 1987, when he began teaching at Slade Middle School. He quickly rose to a leadership position, becoming Assistant Principal of Slade in 1993.

Over the years, Foran has served in the a number of leadership roles in the school district. In 2000, he became a Housemaster at New Britain High School. He then rose to lead NBHS as Principal in 2006.

Foran’s work as Principal of NBHS brought him state and national honors. He was named Connecticut High School Principal of the Year in 2011 and national High School Principal of the Year in 2012.

In 2014, Foran was called upon to lead the NBHS Satellite Careers Academy, the position he held until his elevation to Assistant Superintendent. The school district credits Foran with his leadership in development and implementation of the Careers Academy program for at-risk students.

“What we have in common,” said Sarra of Foran, “is our desire to see improved outcomes for all students and the belief in the whole child. Mike believes that every student can with no exceptions. I cannot think of a better person and fit for Assistant Superintendent.”

“I have tremendous belief in the potential of the staff and students in the Consolidated School District of New Britain,” said Foran. “I am excited to get to work in my new position so we can collectively meet that potential.”

Foran was one of nine administrative appointments made by the Board of Education on July 31st, ahead of the 2018-2019 school year.
