“The Color Purple” at Connecticut Theater Company Jul 13 to Aug 5th

The Connecticut Theater Company will open its musical presentation of “The Color Purple” on July 13, 2018.

A review by Anna Foca say Alice Walker’s novel, The Color Purple, “documents the traumas and gradual triumph of Celie, a young African-American woman raised in rural isolation in Georgia, as she comes to resist the paralyzing self-concept forced on her by those who have power over her.”

The Theater describes its presentation, saying, “This musical adaptation of Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel (and the popular 1985 Steven Spielberg film) spotlights Celie, a downtrodden young woman whose personal awakening over the course of 40 years forms the arc of this epic story.”

“With a joyous score featuring jazz, ragtime, gospel, African music and blues, The Color Purple is a story of hope, a testament to the healing power of love and a celebration of life,” the Theater adds.

The cast of the Connecticut Theater Company play includes Zani N. Scott as Celie, Samantha Bass as Shug, Michele Marie Clay as Sofia, Tanairy Barton as Nettie, Oliver Sai Lester as “Mister”, Cecil Carter as Harpo, Tonille Watkis as Squeak and Robert J.
