Community Comes Together for North Oak Neighborhood Clean Up

An estimated two hundred neighborhood residents, other community members and elected and other officials volunteered in the North Oak neighborhood clean up on April 21st.

The event began with a breakfast for volunteers, provided by Central Connecticut State University. Volunteers then divided into teams who cleaned up trash in different parts of the North Oak neighborhood.

The New Britain Police Department, CCSU, the New Britain Community Gardens organization and numerous others provided support, labor and other other assistance.

Elected officials in attendance included State Representative Bobby Sanchez (D-25), Council President Pro-Tempore Eva Magnusnewski (D-AL), Ald. Iris Sanchez (D-3), Ald. Aram Ayalon (D-3), Ald. Don Naples (R-4), Ald. Richard Reyes (D-AL), Ald. Kristian Rosado (R-2), Ald. Francisco Santiago (D-5) and Board of Education members Violet Sims (D) and James Sanders (R). They were joined by CCSU President Zulma Toro, Police Chief James Wardwell and Fire Chief Raul Ortiz.

A break in recent cold weather, bringing a sunny, sixty degree day, lifted spirits, as residents came together to build a strong community and improve neighborhood quality of life.
