Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman to Speak at City of Pride Kickoff

New Britain Pride has announced that Connecticut Lieutenant Gov. Nancy Wyman (D-CT) will speak at its City of Pride Launch Party.

The Launch Party fundraising event will held February 23, 2018, from 6:00pm to 10:00pm at the Back Nine Tavern.

Wyman has been in public service for thirty years, from Tolland Board of Education to serving as Connecticut’s 108th Lieutenant Governor.

She served for four terms in the Connecticut House of Representatives, where she served as the chair of the Education Committee and held a leadership position on the Appropriations sub-committee on Elementary and Secondary education. In 1994, Wyman became the first woman ever elected State Comptroller. She served in that role, ensuring responsibility and accountability, for sixteen years.

Serving with Governor Dannel P. Malloy since 2010, as Lieutenant Governor, she led Interagency Council for Ending the Achievement Gap.

Wyman has also been the Chair of the Board of Access Health CT, Connecticut’s official health insurance marketplace, under the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as “Obamacare.” Wyman’s office says that, “Access Health CT is recognized nationally as one of the best health exchanges in the country, with other states implementing Connecticut’s technology.”

In addition to Wyman, speakers at the event will include City Council Minority Leader Ald. Robert Smedley (R-4) and New Britain Pride Chair John Board.

New Britain Pride says that it, “was formed in August 2017 as a nonpartisan organization whose goal is to spread understanding and advocate for the LGBT community through pride celebrations, advocacy, and education.”

Donations at the February 23rd event, which begins at 6:00pm, are $30 for adults and $15 for children. The Back Nine Tavern is at the Stanley Golf Course at 245 Hartford Road.
