Two New Britain Jr. Canes football teams have won their 2017 State Championships in recent games. The 9U and 12U Canes both bring home Championship honors in the Connecticut Youth Football & Cheer Conference.
The 9U won their Championship 26 to 0 against Bridgeport on November 5th. They had advanced to the championship game, having won their semifinal against East Hartford 35 to 0 on October 29th.
On November 12th, the 12U team added to the Jr. Canes’ successes with a 33 to 6 win over Bridgeport for their divisional State Championship. The 12U team had won their semifinal game 12 to 6 over Springfield on October 29th.
Both Championship games were played at Falcon Field in Meriden.

New Britain Youth Football & Cheer has announced a fundraising event to support travel expenses for the advancing Jr. Canes. The “Road To Nationals! Jr 12U Canes Football Social” will be held on Friday, November 24th, from 6:00pm to 11:00pm at the Pride of Connecticut Elk Lodge #1437 at 24 Elm Street. Admission for the event is $10.
“CTYFC State Champions on their way to Regional Championships and then Nationals in Florida,” says New Britain Youth Football & Cheer. “Help support our Jr 12U Canes, raise funds to reduce travel expenses! Your support is greatly appreciated!”
Jr. Canes football is a program of New Britain Youth Football & Cheer, Inc. The organization’s Facebook site says,
New Britain Youth Football & Cheer, Inc. is a not for profit organization formed to provide children living in the community the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of sports. The program provides selected athletic activities for children ages 5 through 13 in grades K through 8. We have won the state and regional championships for the past 6 years and have earned the right to compete in Florida at the AYF National tournament! We hope to take the title again this year.
NBYFC offers the following programs: Flag Football & Tiny Cheer Ages K-7 Tackle Football Ages 8-13 Cheerleading Ages 8-14 Dance Ages 8-14.
