New School Year Brings New Associate and Assistant Principals Appointments

The new school year has also brought several new associate and assistant principal appointments to be a part of the leadership of the New Britain Schools.

In New Britain High School, Antoine Billy has been named Associate Principal. An educator since 2013, Billy holds two Bachelor’s Degrees, one in Religious Education from New York Southeast Religious Training Institute and another in Mathematics from Western Connecticut State University (WCSU). His Master’s Degree, also from WCSU, is in Teaching, and he is continuing his studies at WCSU toward a Doctorate of Education in Instructional Leadership. Billy’s teaching experience is mainly at Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven.

Orlando Ruiz, a Smith Elementary School English Language Development teacher since 2014, is now Assistant Principal at Lincoln Elementary School. He had been Interim Assistant Principal at the Smith School at the end of last school year. Ruiz graduated from Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, and holds a Master’s Degree in Education with a focus in remedial reading and remedial language (K-12) from the University of Bridgeport. He has also been a teacher in Waterbury.

“We are excited to bring Mr. Billy to the Consolidated School District of New Britain,” said schools Superintendent Nancy Sarra, “and to promote Mr. Ruiz to the role of Assistant Principal.”

At Smalley Elementary School, 2015 District Teacher of the Year, Andrea Foligno, has been appointed as Interim Assistant Principal. Foligno has taught in New Britain since 2001.

“We’re also very excited for Mrs. Foligno as she moves on from teaching in the classroom to an administrative role,” said Sarra.

Speaking of all three, Sarra said, “They all bring unique qualities and talent to the table and we are looking forward to their success in their respective roles.”

Other leadership changes in the school district are:

  • At DiLoreto Elementary & Middle School, where Johanna Robles is now the Assistant Principal, having previously been the Associate Principal at New Britain High School.
  • At Gaffney Elementary School, where Jodi Correa is the Assistant Principal, having previously been the Assistant Principal at Smalley Elementary School.
  • At Smith Elementary School, where Anna Machial is now the Assistant Principal, having previously been the Assistant Principal at Gaffney Elementary School.
