Two U.S. Senators and U.S. Representative to Visit in Support of Merrill Gay

Both of Connecticut’s U.S. Senators and New Britain’s U.S. Representative are visiting New Britain in order to support Democratic Mayoral candidate Merrill Gay.

U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT), U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Cong. Elizabeth Esty (D-5)

In a message to supporters, Gay made the announcement that U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT), U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty (D-5) are joining him at an event at the home on State Rep. Peter Tercyak (D-26) on June 11th.

“Our Connecticut representatives in Congress are fighting hard each and every day for us,” Gay said in the message. “They also recognize that change begins from the ground up.”

Gay, who announced his candidacy for mayor in April, is currently a member of the Board of Education. He filled a vacancy on the Board in 2014 and was elected to a four year term in 2015.

Gay serves as the executive director of the Connecticut Early Childhood Alliance. He is well known as an education advocate at both the state and local levels. He has been an advocate for work to improve early reading success, reduce childhood obesity and to improve school attendance.

“I have been extremely encouraged by the outpouring of support I have received since I kicked off my campaign,” Gay added. “I have held house parties across the city to discuss how we can improve the lives of residents in New Britain. We all have a common goal: To make our lives, and our children’s lives better in the city we love. But there is a lot of work to be done”
