5th Annual Hoops for Homeless Benefit for Programs Addressing Homelessness of Children and Families

In summertime heat and sunny weather, players of all ages competed in the 5th year of the annual Hoops for Homeless tournament.

Main Street was turned into a series of basketball courts for players of all ages. As the event’s Facebook page says:

Hoops for Homeless is all ages annual 3 on 3 basketball tournament staged on Main Street in downtown New Britain next to Central Park. All proceeds from this event will be given to local projects that will directly address homelessness in New Britain.

Players in the tournament compete in seven divisions:

  • Rookies, grades 4 and 5
  • Junior All Stars, grades 6 to 8
  • All Stars, grades 9 to 12
  • Ballers, ages 19 to 29
  • Hot Shots, ages 30 and above
  • Legends, age 50 and above
  • Superstars, women’s and co-ed.

The Hoops for the Homeless website says that proceeds of the tournament benefit programs at:

  • The Boys and Girls Club of New Britain
  • The Consolidated School District of New Britain
  • The Friendship Service Center of New Britain
  • Prudence Crandall Center
