Hundreds Attend St. Joachim Parish Festival

The rain could not keep people away from celebration of St. Joachim Parish’s annual Festival, as hundreds of people enjoyed food, music and community celebration.

The Festival in Honor of Our Lady of the Assumption was moved from its planned location on grounds St. Mary Church into the parish hall because of the weather.

People danced to live music, as others shared conversation and community spirit.

Food booths were set up inside the Church hall, as they would have been outdoors. There, people selected from delicious food, including arroz con gandules, arroz chaufa, lomo saltado, Colombian empanadas, bacalaítos, empanadillas, tacos, elotes, cotton candy and piraguas.

The Festival is an three day, weekend-long, annual event, with Mass and opening festivities on Friday, the large community festival on Saturday and celebration of Mass on Sunday.

New Britain’s Saint Joachim Parish is a combination of the churches of Saint Mary, at 544 Main Street, and Saint Ann, at 47 Clark Street.
