Candidates and Polling Places for August 14, 2018 Primaries

On Tuesday, August 14th, Democratic and Republican voters will go to polls to choose their parties’ nominees for numerous offices up for election in 2018.

Democrats will be able to choose between businessman Ned Lamont and Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim to be the Democratic nominee for Governor.

Democrats will be able to choose separately in the election for Lieutenant Governor between former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz and former Newtown Council member Eva Bermudez Zimmerman.

In the election for the Fifth Congressional District, Democrats will choose their nominee between Mary Messina Glassman and Jahana Hayes.

Shawn Wooden and Dita Bhargava are the candidates for the Democratic nomination for State Treasurer.

There are three candidates for the Democratic nomination for State Attorney General, William Tong, Paul Doyle and Chris Mattei.

Republicans have a five-way primary for the office of Governor, giving Republican voters the choice between Mark Boughton, Timothy Herbst, Steve Obsitnik, Bob Stefanowski and David Stemmerman.

Likewise, there is a three-way contest for the Republican nomination for Lieutenant Governor between State Senator Joe Markey, Darien First Selectman Jayme Stevenson and New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart.

Republicans have a primary for the office of United States Senator between Matthew Corey and Dominic Rapini.

There is a three-way Republican primary for the Fifth Congressional District, with the candidates being Manny Santos, Ruby Corby-O’Neill and Richard DuPont.

Thad Gray and Art Linares are the candidates in the Republican primary for State Treasurer.

For their candidate for State Comptroller, Republicans will choose between Kurt Miller and Mark Greenberg.

Finally, the Republican nomination for State Attorney General will be decided in the primary between Sue Hatfield and John Shaban.

Voting in New Britain takes place at seventeen polling places in the city. New Britain has fifteen voting districts, but Voting District 5 has three polling places, including two located senior housing complexes.

Voting on August 14th will be between the hours of 6:00am and 8:00pm.

The winners of the primaries will be the Democratic nominees and Republicans nominees in the November 6th general election.
