Democratic Mayoral candidate Merrill Gay has announced that he has received the endorsement from the United Auto Workers Region 9A, and Connecticut’s Working Families Party, just one day before the New Britain Democratic Party will vote on whether to endorse him for the Democratic nomination.

The two endorsements add to the support Gay already received from the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers, which, his campaign says, shows growing momentum.

“United Auto Workers is proud to endorse Democrat Merrill Gay,” said Julie Kushner, Director of UAW Region 9A, “Merrill is exactly the kind of person we need at the helm of New Britain.”

Kushner added, “Merrill has shown us, time and time again he has what it takes to fight for our communities, and our children. He has never faltered or left a fight for the common good. We know he’s on our side and he’ll fight for the good jobs and great schools that our members care about.”

Carlos Moreno, Interim Executive Director of the Working Families Party, said, “We are proud to stand with Merrill Gay, as he has stood with the New Britain community time and time again. His years of experience in fighting for working families will make him an effective and hard-working Mayor.”

“I am humbled and honored to receive the endorsement of two organizations who fight for working families every day,” said Merrill Gay. “I look forward to continuing our partnership in the coming months to win this election and work towards building a better New Britain”

Gay’s campaign says he is expected to receive the Democratic Town Committee’s unanimous endorsement.
