Press Pool Story,

The city elections are underway, with Bobby Berriault holding the first event of the potential Democratic candidates for city offices this year.

Berriault held a fundraising event for his exploratory committee at Roma restaurant on January 20th. He was joined by numerous dignitaries on a day with an intense political charge, as Republican Donald Trump assumed the national presidency.

An exploratory committee allows a candidate to consider becoming a candidate for office. Berriault’s exploratory committee allows him to consider running for office in the 2017 city elections without naming a particular office.

Berriault may have been the first out of the gate, but there are other stirrings of Democratic candidates for different offices, including mayor, City Council and Board of Education. Republicans currently hold the office of mayor, a 12 to 3 majority on the City Council and effective control of the Board of Education.
